Our Therapy Center/T.C. Kids program will be presenting its 2010 Summer Reading Enrichment Camp August 2 through August 12 (Mondays through Thursdays) from 8 11AM for children who are entering grades 1 through 4 in September 2010.
Is your child struggling with early literacy and language development? Do you want to foster a love of reading in your child? This program is designed to help your child unlock the adventures of reading via a multidisciplinary model including Speech, Occupational and Physical therapies.
The program includes:
Pre-/post-test reading assessments for...
- Word recognition (decoding)
- Fluency
- Comprehension
Instruction Areas:
- The language of math
- Phonological awareness/blending of sounds/word attack skills
- Word reading and spelling
- Fluency
- New vocabulary/meaning
- Application of vocabulary
- Reading comprehension to include event sequencing, character description, setting
- Literacy-language integration, narratives, stories, crafts, making books, reading of everyday life (labels, menus, recipes, etc.), dramatic play via fine and gross motor activities
Research-based computer instruction:
- Earobics, Wordmaker, Laureate Learning Software
The facilitators of this program include Speech-Language Pathologists with expertise in child language development (i.e., syntax, semantics, morphology, discourse and phonology), which is the foundation for literacy skills; and Occupational and Physical Therapists specializing in fine and gross motor skills that enhance positioning, and organizational skills that help to facilitate the ability to focus.
